The founder of JK Mill Engineering is Janne Koponen, a mechanical engineer (B.Sc.) with over 25 years of experience in industrial design. His career began in the mid-1990s with layout design for recovery boilers and continued with various demanding design tasks in the forest industry.

Koponen has worked in several engineering firms and gained experience in international projects. In recent years, he has focused on layout and plant design for bioenergy and chemical recovery plants.
